Call
To equal another player’s bet.
Fold
Discarding one's cards.
Check
Passing when no bet is in play.
Raise
To increase another player's bet.
Re-Raise
To increase another player’s raise.
All-in
Betting all money at once (only in No Limit poker).
Community cards
The five cards on the board shared by all players.
Flop
The first three communal cards.
Turn
The fourth communal card.
River
The fifth and final communal card.
Blinds
The Blinds are small forced bets and are placed before any cards are dealt. One Big Blind and one Small Blind.
Button
Marker moved from player to player in a clockwise direction. The player on the button always acts last.
Position
A player’s position in relation to the dealer’s button.
Freeroll
Usually a tournament that is free to enter.
Ring game
A cash game as in opposite to a prize pool game. You can leave the game whenever you want to.
Bad beat
A good hand that is beaten by someone getting very lucky.
Betting Rounds
There are four betting rounds: Pre-flop, Flop, Turn and River.
Bluff
Betting and raising with a hand that is propably not the best hand, thus trying to scare your opponent into folding.
Bust
Losing your entire stack or your entire bank roll.
Cap
The last raise. There is a cap of three raises in a betting round.
Cracked
Good starting hand that fails.
Connectors
Starting hands such as 3-4.
Dominated
AK dominates AQ if an ace is on the board, because of the higher kicker.
Draw hand
Usually a hand that is worthless but can make a straight or a flush with a little bit of luck.
Edge
The advantage one player has over another through better skill, larger stack or better position.
Grinder
A player that carefully plays for hours to build up a large stack.
Fish
Players that often looses.
Flat call
Making a call when a raise could have been done.
Heads-up
A one-on-one poker game.
Hole cards
Your starting hand (pocket cards).
Gut shot
A very unlikely draw like an inside straight.
Kicker
When two players holding equal hands like a pair, the highest unpaired card is the kicker and will decide the winner.
Limping
Calling in the pre-flop action when you normally would have been raising.
Nuts
To hold the best combination currently possible.
Outs
The total number of current possibilities a player has to win the pot.
Over card
Cards higher than the highest card currently on the board.
Pocket pair
A pair in the hand.
Rags
Low value communal cards.
A set
A pocket pair that makes a three of a kind.
Steam
To lose temper and start playing badly.
Streak
To win with whatever cards you are dealt.
Suited
Cards with matching suits (hearts, clubs, spades or diamonds).
Tells
Patterns that reveal a players cards or strategies.
Tilt
To lose it and play like a madman.
Trap
To lure other players to stay in the pot when you are sure you are going to win.
